However, Peter discarded the web-shooters after his failure to save Gwen, giving up on his duties as Spider-Man for five months before returning to fight the Rhino. With the help of Gwen Stacy, Peter was able to do so by magnetizing the shooters, allowing him to use them during a final fight against his electric enemy. However, the new models faced damage during an encounter with Electro, malfunctioning when exposed to the latter's electricity, with Peter seeking to make them electrically resistant as a result. These new models could fire webbing from its sides as well as the front and used Peter's own, homemade version of the bio-cables.
As a result, Peter collaborated with Gwendolyne Stacy to create simpler, more efficient web-shooters for him to use regularly. In addition, Oscorp was forced to exterminate all their spiders in order to comply with lawsuits imposed on them as a result of the incident with Connors, ceasing the production of the bio-cable. However, the web-shooters were damaged once again in a battle with the Russian Mob, rendering them virtually irreparable. After Connors was incarcerated, Peter managed to restore the web-shooters to working condition, and continued to use them a year later in his efforts to prevent everyday crime in New York. Peter would use these web-shooters to combat a mutated, berserk Curt Connors in the latter's campaign to cause a Lizard Apocalypse, though they suffered severe damage when they were crushed by Connors during their final battle.
Manufactured from old watches and Oscorp's bio-cable pellets containing silk from their genetically engineered spiders, Peter created the web-shooters after his Uncle Ben's murder in order to apprehend criminals and make a quick escape by swinging from building to building, all simply by pressing on his palm to fire the bio-cable, although they occasionally became clogged up and malfunctioned.
